Fleeting visits and longer stays. The light in the UK is a lot bluer than South Africa, and it took a while to understand. People in the UK are also a lot more sensitive about being photographed, which is ironic given the number of CCTV cameras.

The Serpentine: I woke up one Saturday morning and decided to fly to London. I was there a day later. The pencil drawing was an attempt at slowing my pace down so I could start to see lines and the gestalt of the scene.

Ducks on the Serpentine: Early morning, looking towards the Tower.

London bus: Near Trafalgar Square, late one night in 2005.

Rievaulx Abbey: Out biking, taken with the Fuji S5 and Sigma 24mm.

|
Formby Point: Long expanses of beach with low dunes and a red squirrel sanctuary in the trees behind.

|
Wast Water in the Lake District: A strangely barren lake, in start contrast to the lush vegetation of Windemere.

Wiltshire Windmill: The B roads offered a much better route home from the Isle of Wight than motorways.

Whitby Pier: Protecting the river port from the sea, this breakwater shows signs of being swamped by large waves. The curves and lines were just too appealing to ignore.

|
Spurn Point: The mouth of the Humber Estuary, and little yatchs struggling close to the shore against the flow of water out to sea.

Blackpool: A split personality, trying to be a picturesque seaside town by day, but overrun with boozers and stag and hen parties by night.
