South Africa
High School in East London, worked in East London, Transkei, Johannesburg and other dorps. People, army, a couple of businesses, bikes and pets. Lots of memories!

Ronald and Rebecca: Cousin Dave's two rhino. Probably shouldn't have jumped off the back of the vehicle to get this shot, but they were placid enough on the day.

Johannesburg skyline from a mine head: Taken as the sun was setting, the city of Jo'burg is bathed in a golden glow that reminds one of its heritage.

Johannesburg from the Lion Park: An storm ploughs through Johannesburg late one afternoon. The lightning was so frequent that it appeared in several images. The city centre is in the middle right background, Sandton to its left and Fourways hard left. The white blob on the right is The Dome, and behind that is Northcliff hill on the horizon.

Highveld moon: Early evening on the farm.

Drinking from the fountain: The Botanical Gardens in Roodepoort.

Kimberley processing plant in the early 1980's: Geology can be a hot and dusty career, even if it is looking for diamonds. I love prospecting, hate the tedium of mining communities.
Grootvlei power station: The sun was about to set, a storm had been raging, and I was returning from my first photographic assignment (terrible, every aspiring photographer should be an assistant first!) I noticed the rainbow and raced over the hills to catch it, finding the power station by chance.

Student days: Gonubie in the 1980s. Now you know why I keep my hair short!
The road to Cedarville: Wide open spaces, a nice car, and views like this! South Africa has to be one of the best touring countries.
Clarens road trip: Another roadtrip, another mode of transport. Not great journalism, but here is a writeup about this trip here and a trip to a Durban conference here.
Leafy Emmerentia lane: One of the first images I took in digital, remembering what a work colleague once said about September leaves in Rosebank.
Building on Constantia Kloof: This property was situated on a hillside and had amazing views all the way to Pretoria (the Voortrekker Monument could be seen with binoculars!) I decided to build in concrete and glass, and here I was laying foundations - no machines, just buckets. After I went to Malaysia I received a good offer on the property and sold, a regrettable decision in hindsight.

Diving Lake Malawi: Anne and crew. Lots of stories from this trip, suffice it to say that Malawi is a great country and Monkey Bay is a superb dive spot.
