Born and raised in Bulawayo, I went to Baines and Northlea High. Life was relaxed and simple, with mostly nice, straightforward people. Less money-grubbing back then, yet the country had a purpose and a self-reliance that I have never found again. Maybe I am just reminiscing, but many ex-Rhodies seem to agree.

On holiday: Durban in the 1970s. Cheap air travel was unheard of, so we drove everywhere. Every couple of years it was to the seaside, and although East London was the usual destination we also went to Durban and Cape Town. Bulawayo to East London and back was over 3000 kilometers!
