The Yorkshire Dales
The Dales are all within an hour or so of Leeds, so plenty of day trips and exploration.

Pateley Bridge bandstand: This lovely village sits in a valley close to Harrogate, and it boasts the oldest sweet shop in the UK (didn't take long to find that!)

Gargrave Cafe: A small tearoom on the route between Leeds and the Lakes, it is filled with niknaks and displays of hard sweets.

Ripon Cathedral: Taken with a Nikon FM and 36-72mm lens, I was taken aback by the painterly quality that the Fuji Reala film gave to this scene.

Armscliff Crag: Taken in December 2009 with a D700 and the pro 35-70mm f/2.8 AFD lens. Compare this to the above - digital has overtaken film in some respects, but possibly not others! I love the painterly feel of the film.

Staithes: Tucked into a narrow valley and sheltered by a crabs claw breakwater, Staithes was a fishing village that is now supported by tourism like many others.

Scampston Hall: Enormous grounds and a nice nursery and tea-room on the road to Scarborough. The river and pond is worth a visit, with birdlife including woodpeckers, cranes and of course ducks and swans.

Flamborough Chalk: Cliffs teaming with birdlife, and polished white rocks below. This coastline is rapidly being eaten away by the sea.

Hiking near Ribblehead: The Ribblehead viaduct carries the Settle Carlisle railway, and was built at great cost in human life. And we wonder why the health and safety laws are so excessive in the UK!

The Hole: A great dent in the earth on the way to Whitby.
